How To Reduce Holiday Stress For Business Owners

As the holiday season approaches, your stress level will probably rise.  Especially for us travel business owners, holidays are one of our busiest seasons. In addition to your typical schedule of work, home and kids (if you’re a mom/ or if you have a family of your own) you also have to manage your travel business. The good news is, even with all the extra activities and preparations, you can still reduce your holiday stress for your travel business.

To help you during the holidays, here are some proven strategies to help you decrease your stress. Some of these may even be so effective that you’ll choose to use them all year long, not just during the holidays!

1. Start holiday planning and preparations earlier.

I remember when I was a newbie business owner, I was so stressed during the holidays, and I can tell you why…lack of early planning and implementation.

Can you imagine how much less stressed you’d feel if you had all your holiday marketing plan and implementations done in October?

  • Pan your holiday marketing well in advance of using them. This way, you’ll have more time to review them. As the holidays get closer, review your marketing lists and make any minor adjustments you want.
  • Spreading holiday marketing tasks out over longer periods of time means youll have less stress during the holiday season. 
  • Plan marketing email and schedule social media posts.

2. Streamline your business operations/ Automate processes

  • Before the holiday frenzy hits, make sure you’re as streamlined as possible.  Make sure you have as many things on autopilot as possible gives you time back to focus on the more important stuff.

3. Take shortcuts to save time.

Figure out easier ways to do things that will provide more time for other holiday tasks and activities.

  •  Time management. Prioritize the important tasks, after that, you can move on to the less important tasks.

4. Learn to Delegate. 

If you come to the realization that you’ve been put in charge of too many things, don’t pile on the stress – instead, delegate the tasks. Be wise enough to know when you need some help and ask for it.

It’s much easier and more efficient to hire people or give the tasks to people in your company who already know the ropes than doing it yourself. If you don’t have a permanent team in your company, keep a note about seasonal helpers, and let the ones you like know you’ll keep them in mind for future holiday needs.

5. Make holiday travels easy for your customers.

  • Create an outline of a plan for holiday-themed sales and promotions that work best for your travel business.
  • Group items together by price point. Put together special, limited-time packages. Thinking through this will eliminate those “I should have done that but now I don’t have time” moments.
  • You can also have customized products ready to go and make sure to have a steady supply of your product during the holidays.

6. Scale down your holiday plans and expectations.

  • Choose what you want to do. Ponder what the holidays truly mean to you and then express that meaning in your holiday marketing. By thinking about what you really want the holidays to mean to you and your travel business even for your family, you can let go of expectations and really enjoy your time together.
  • Acknowledge that everything doesn’t need to be perfect. Scaling down your plans involves letting go of your “perfect dream” for your travel business during the holidays.

7. Take Time to Yourself.

We often take the time to think of our travel business and others during the holidays. While that’s very important to maintain, you can’t forget about yourself in the process. Remember to schedule “me” time and concentrate on winding down; get enough rest and buy yourself a present. In order to take good care of your travel business and others, you first have to take care of your own health and well- being.

We have this “perfect vision” or the “perfect dream” for our travel business, but trust me, there is no such thing as perfect. But by doing these tips, you can achieve the close-to-perfect version of the perfect vision you have for your travel business during the holidays. 

As travel business owners, the holiday can be the most stressful time or the most wonderful time for us. This year, make the decision to reduce your holiday stress. By shedding the urge to be perfect, beginning holiday planning earlier, scaling down expectations, automating your business processes, and using shortcuts to save time, you’ll bring your tension level way down.

Is your travel business struggling to make enough profit to pay the bills? Living paycheck to paycheck can be quite frustrating. Perhaps you started a small business so you could pursue your dream while earning money at the same time. If so, then you know that it isn’t always easy to get a small business to bring in the profits you’d like. I know this because this was my situation when I was starting out as an entrepreneur. However, if you’re willing to work hard and have a good plan, there’s no limit to how far you can take your small business. Luckily, there are many ways to increase your current cash flow and free you from the threat of financial disaster. Consider these strategies to increase your cash flow:
  1. Collect feedback. Many small business owners forget the importance of soliciting feedback from their clients. There are several effective ways to find out what your clients think about your products and services.
  • Ask the client to fill out a quick survey or questionnaire to rate various aspects of your business. These surveys can provide an excellent glimpse into your client’s point of view. There are many different websites that enable you to create simple surveys. Look online to find one that meets your needs.
  • Follow up with your clients with a phone-call or email asking for comments about your products or services. Inquire about which aspects they are satisfied with and which need some work.
  • Talk to your clients in person and ask them how they feel about their experiences with your travel business.
  • Remember, word of mouth is one of the best ways to advertise your business. If you have a bunch of satisfied customers, they’ll tell their friends and family about their positive experience and you’ll get more business.
2. Get rid of products and services that don’t sell. It’s likely that you offer your customers a wide variety of products or services, but only a few of them bring you maximum profit.
  • Sometimes a large inventory can work against your business. Customers often avoid buying altogether when they’re overwhelmed with options.
  • Instead of offering more products and services that likely won’t be sold, trash the unattractive products and offer more items or services related to your best-sellers. This is an excellent way to boost sales while reducing upkeep and inventory costs.

  • Think about marketing your business online. It’s becoming easier with each passing day and more people are prone to search the internet for better deals. Businesses that have online order options are often much more successful. It’s a perfect way to increase cash flow.
  • Get the word out. Take advantage of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote your business.
  • Radio advertisements, commercials, billboards, and flyers all increase the visibility of your business. Sometimes, door-to-door marketing is just as effective.

I Keep a Joyful Attitude When Holiday Times Get Stressful

Staying joyful is important to me. Busy holidays can increase stress, but stress leaves me like the water of a duck’s back. My life is filled with only positive energy and happiness. I remain in joy regardless of what the holiday circumstances bring me. Each holiday is a unique opportunity to do something that brings me more joy.

As holidays get close, I find ways to stay calm. I let my peace radiate out to others. They see the peace I have, and they feel better about their holidays. I help a lot of people just by staying happy and positive during stressful holiday times. I know the holidays are what I make of them. I choose to make them joyful and fun.

I turn the stress of my life in positive energy by focusing on solutions. Holidays are a wonderful time to enjoy family and friends. I enjoy finding the beauty of the holidays. I see that beauty and focus on it to help keep my stress levels low. Low stress means high happiness.

I stay in joy this holiday season by walking in peace and love. I make the holidays great for everyone around me. I value my time and my happiness. I hold onto that happiness through any holiday situation.

As a mom, a wife and a travel business owner, things can easily get stressful for me not just on holidays but on a daily basis. So every day, instead of grumbling and complaining about the things I wish could have gone my way, I make it a point to be happy and joyful. I cultivate a grateful heart by focusing on the good things and many blessings in my life. 

Today, I overlook holiday stress and stay happy and joyful.

Why It’s Never Too Late to Go After Your Dreams

What dreams would you pursue if you knew it was impossible for you to fail?

It All Comes Down To Attitude

Much of the battle for your dreams is fought in the mind, which is why it’s so important to not to let doubts defeat you. There are many reasons that you may doubt yourself. You may convince yourself that you lack the intelligence, resources, or capability. But if you have a good dream in your heart, then it is possible! It’s just as easy to convince yourself that you can do it. Simply replace defeating self-talk with empowering affirmations that fire you up and get you moving. Believe and take action!

To get ready to reach your goals, start by questioning and attacking your doubts. Are they really true? Are they logical? Most doubts are simply exaggerations based on fear. Replace them with empowering thoughts that boost your confidence. Instead of focusing on the big picture, focus on the small steps that will get you to your dream.

List all the skills and positive qualities you possess. If you can’t think of any, ask your friends and family. Others often have a better perspective on your strengths than you do.

Think of the compliments you’ve received, write them down, and review them often to combat the fear and anxiety that falsely lead you to believe that you aren’t good enough.

Next, list the things you want most in life. What are your financial and career goals? What would you like your relationships to be like? What are your core values?

Every travel business owner wants their enterprise to attract customers and grow. Unfortunately, a number of businesses fail to do this and often end up short of what they expect. There are many reasons that can prevent a business owner from achieving their true potential.

However, one of the most common reasons business owners fail to expand their businesses is the lack of clearly defined goals. This problem is not limited to businesses and it affects many people on a personal and professional level as well. In this article, we will discuss 7 reasons why you need to set goals.

1. Focus

One of the greatest benefits of setting goals is that they help individuals focus on tasks that are the most urgent. Due to developments in technology, the world is now connected more than it ever was before. Although it has made our life more comfortable and convenient, it has also introduced countless distractions in our life.

Distractions cause people to waste their time on things that are neither urgent nor important. One estimate suggests that small distractions can cause a lack of focus for as much as 23 minutes.

As a result, you will break down your tasks to 50 customers each day. Even if you fail to reach 50 customers on a given day, you will try harder the next day to achieve the specified goal within the week.

Setting yourself against goals and deadlines can bring out your best. Goals can help you to achieve things with your highest potential. As a result, since you have limited options, to begin with, your brain will focus on creative ways to carry out tasks on a tight schedule.

Usually, when we are instructing someone to do a task, we unknowingly spend time talking about unrelated things. However, if we are working against a strict timeframe defined by a clear goal, we have less time for communication. This lack of time can prompt us to be more specific in our communication and convey things more efficiently.

In conclusion, setting clear and defined goals can enhance your ability to achieve your targets. Regardless of whether you are setting goals for your business, personal, or professional growth, clearly defined goals is the key to success.

Goal setting is a tried and tested method of boosting one’s motivation, efficiency, performance, and confidence levels. And while goal setting may seem like an easy exercise, it really isn’t especially goal setting in your travel business. In fact, many individuals and business owners make costly mistakes that prevent them from achieving their goals. Not only do they end up getting demotivated and disheartened, but the entire goal-setting process also proves to be a waste of time. Hence, it’s crucial to ensure you set your goals properly.

The common mistake about SMART GOALS  

In many cases, people set SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) for themselves.  SMART goals may work with some people, but for some people, even SMART goals can fall short of providing them with a clear-cut path to success. While there is nothing wrong with challenging your team with deadlines, expecting them to complete tasks in an unrealistic timeframe is not the right way to go about it. Hence, it’s important for you as a travel business owner to be aware of your limits and of your employees when setting goals. Setting a goal can help you to make efficient use of the available time and refocus your energy on things that matter most. However, it’s important to lay out what you need to do to be successful. You not only have to establish a timeframe for what needs to be done but also acquire the means to achieve those tasks. On a personal level, this means you need to develop the habits necessary to make progress towards attaining your goals. For instance, if you have set a goal to stay physically fit by exercising 30 minutes every morning, you must also try to make a habit of waking up early so you have time to exercise. In this case, if you don’t get rid of the habit of sleeping late, it would be impossible for you to dedicate enough time to exercise each morning.

Failure to Create a Realistic Action Plan 

A number of employees are not able to achieve their desired goals because they lack a proper action plan. They often underestimate the time it takes to complete a certain task. Failure to achieve tasks in an unrealistic timeframe can lead to frustration and anxiety, which causes them to give up. This is why it is extremely necessary to create effective action plans. Your action plan should account for risks and challenges that could hold you back from achieving your goals. By adding extra time in your estimates, you will feel less overwhelmed about the timeline and be able to finish the task effectively.

Not Tracking Progress

Even if you have set attainable goals, it’s possible that you might not be able to achieve them. This often happens when business owners fail to track progress towards their goals on a regular basis. Your failure to track progress can lead you to overestimate the progress you made on a certain goal and fall behind on what you had planned for your travel business. You should always try to evaluate your progress intermittently to ensure that you are on the right path. Not only will it help you to keep yourself on track, but it will also serve as a constant source of motivation. Furthermore, monitoring and keeping track of the progress you have made towards achieving a certain goal can help you to focus on other aspects of your life more effectively. Starting a travel business without setting goals is similar to setting a ship to the sea without any proper direction course for it to follow. You will always be influenced by changing situations around you and end somewhere you didn’t want to go in the first place. Goals are necessary to give your travel business to have direction and help you fulfill your dreams. However, to be successful in your travel business, you must avoid making the abovementioned goal-setting mistakes that can lower your self-esteem, make you question your abilities or simply give up.
  Sometimes, you might even need some help in goal setting for your travel business. This is what I’ve learned in my entrepreneurship journey that it is better to ask help to avoid mistakes from the start and to invest in things that can help you achieve your goal. Clarify Your Goals for Greater Success

A goal is like a compass. It helps you focus on where you want to go in life and make positive progress to get there. However, it’s important to remember that you need clarity in your goals from time to time. As a travel business owner, you’ll want to make it as easy as possible for you to reach them.

As discussed in my previous article, 7 Reasons Why You Need to Set Goals For Your Travel Business, one of the most common reasons business owners fail to expand their businesses is the lack of clearly defined goals.

It may take some more time on your part, but when you write out detailed instructions for yourself instead of vague ideas, you have a much better chance at success. Not only do you know exactly what you need to do, but such plans also tend to invigorate you with more enthusiasm.

Follow these tips in order to clarify your goals for your travel business:

1. Figure out your ultimate goal. What, exactly, do you want to achieve for your travel business?

  • Instead of a goal like “I want to be successful,” get down to specifics, such as “I want to own my own travel business which brings in at least $10,000 per month.” 

2. Don’t be afraid of detail. You make the ultimate decision on what you want. Just don’t be afraid to set the details. Avoid goals like “I want to be rich” or “I want to have a successful travel business” because there is no detail.

  • How much money do you want to make in your travel business?
  • Why? What will this money provide for you that you desire?
  • What lifestyle do you want? Cars, homes, ability to travel the world, philanthropy?
  • How do you want to earn this money?
  • When do you want this to happen?
  • How can you prepare for this?

3. Break up your goals. When you stare at the ultimate goal, it may seem intimidating and unattainable. That’s why it’s important to break up your main goal into smaller goals. Write out detailed plans about how you’ll reach each of the smaller goals.

  • For example, if you want to start your own travel business, a small goal would be to research your local and federal business laws and register a name.

4. Give yourself deadlines. It’s vital to give yourself deadlines so you know you’re making progress towards your goals. Each of your small goals should have an attainable deadline.

  • In the business example above, maybe you’d give yourself a week’s time in order to research different business structures and laws.

5. Keep track. Make detailed notes about what you have done so far. Keeping track of your progress will help you stay organized and on top of your goals. 

6. Make alternate plans. Sometimes you won’t be able to make the deadline you have set out for yourself, or maybe you’ll be unable to follow through with a current plan entirely. It’s important to think of alternatives in case certain situations don’t work out in your favor. If you already have back up plans in place, you’ll save time if you run into snags on the way to your goals. 

Get Organized

An organization can mean keeping all of your detailed plans and journals in a binder with tabs for easy access to your various sets of notes. Alternatively, you may opt to keep your materials organized by using project management software on your computer. Just remember to make backups of your digital information so that you don’t lose it. Personally, I use both journal and project management software. Project management software is great but there is nothing more tangible than writing your goals on a pen and paper.
